The Ohio FRC State Championship will take place on Saturday, May 21st at Worthington Kilbourne High School in Columbus, Ohio. The top 24 teams based on the following point system will qualify and be invited to attend the fourth annual state championship. If a qualified team is not able to participate, the next ranked team will be invited.
Point System for Qualifying to the Ohio State FRC Championship
3 points per win in qualifications
6 points per win in eliminations
#1 initial Alliance Captain: 20 points
#2 initial Alliance Captain: 19 points
#3 initial Alliance Captain: 18 points
#4 initial Alliance Captain: 16 points
#5 – #8 initial Alliance Captain: 13 points
Picks 1 to 4 in the first round: 10 points
Picks 5 to 8 in the first round: 8 points
Second round pick: 5 points
Each Team Award Earns: 5 Points for Team Awards (not Highest Rookie seed or individual awards) 8 Points for Engineering Inspiration Award 10 Points for Chairman’s Award A team’s score will be either its score from its only regional or the weighted average of 75% of the higher and 25% of the lower score from its first two regional competitions. If a team qualifies for the World Championships, their score at the Championships will be used if it raises the team’s score. Therefore, performance at the Championships can’t hurt a team’s ranking but it can be used as their highest or second highest score if it this would increase their score.
Just as going to World Championships can’t hurt a team’s ranking, an Alliance Captain accepting another team’s invitation to join an alliance will not result in lost points. For example, if the initial #3 Alliance Captain, a position worth 18 points, accepts an invitation to join the #1 alliance, the team retains the 18 points even though being the first pick would normally earn 10 points. Any team that moves up into an Alliance Captaincy once selections have commenced will be awarded the same number of points that the next pick of a non-Alliance Captain would earn. Any Alliance Captain that moves up due to a higher positioned Alliance Captain accepting an invitation will remain with the points previously earned. (For example, a #4 Alliance Captain that moves to the #3 position remains at 16 points.)
The Ohio FRC State Championship will have a slightly different format this year. 24 teams will be invited, but instead of the Alliance Captains being pre-determined from the regular season’s results, this year the results of the qualification rounds will determine who the Captains are. As the one-day format imposes time restrictions, an additional qualification round will be added by reformatting the Eliminations to six alliances of four teams each with the #1 and #2 Alliances having a bye in the first (quarter-final) elimination round. Each Alliance’s four robots must be played at least once in each elimination round unless the Head Referee certifies that a robot is non-functional.
Invitation Tie Breakers: 1. Head to head (meaning performance at same event(s), even if after either team’s second event) 2. Average # of elimination wins in the only or first two events 3. Average # of qualifying wins in the only or first two events 4. First event overall score
Since the team ranking only determines which teams are invited to the Ohio FRC State Championship, the tie breakers will only be used to break ties when one or more of the tied teams would receive an invite and the other tied teams would not receive an invite to the event.
